Coater Process Engineer – Vacuum Coating Specialist

About the role

Guardian Glass is seeking a Coater Process Engineer to lead the design, optimization and operation of vacuum coating processes for thin‑film glass products. The role supports global development, plant operations and continuous improvement to meet quality, safety and cost targets.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and optimization of coating processes for current and upcoming product projects.
• Serve as an integral member of the global development team, contributing to new thin‑film process technology, product launches, transfers and improvement initiatives.
• Lead an operational team safely and efficiently, taking ownership of safety, quality, productivity and vision advancement.
• Provide process engineering support to plant operations, driving improvements in quality, performance and throughput of vacuum coating systems.
• Seek market insights and best practices to enhance Guardian’s process‑technology capability.
• Stay up to date with industry trends, innovations and communicate ideas across the region.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Experience in optical thin‑film technologies and vacuum coating sputtering processes for solar, semiconductor or architectural coated glass.
• Proven ability to analyze complex technical challenges, identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
• Expertise in problem‑solving methodologies such as 8D, Six Sigma and Lean principles.
• Experience leading and motivating high‑performing teams.

Required skills

• Vacuum coating sputtering process expertise.
• Thin‑film optical characterization techniques (AES, XPS, SEM, TEM, X‑Rite color measurement, XRD).
• Thin‑film coating design software (TFCalc, Optilayer, Essential Macleod, Ellipsometer).
• Quality‑control laboratory equipment operation (profilometers, HunterLab spectrophotometers, PerkinElmer instruments) and durability testing.
• Problem‑solving methodologies (8D, Six Sigma, Lean).
