Electrical Design Engineer – LV Systems (Riyadh)

About the role

SYSTRA is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join a specialised technical group responsible for LV electrical management system design reviews on metro projects. Reporting to the Senior Electrical (Design) Engineer, the role is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and covers underground, at‑ground and elevated stations, tunnels and related buildings.

Key responsibilities

• Review equipment layouts such as LV switchboards, MCC switchboards and automatic transfer switchboards (ATS).
• Assess design, installation and routing of LV cable lighting, low‑current power cables, fire‑alarm, BMS, earthing and lightning‑protection systems.
• Validate cable sizing, raceway calculations, short‑circuit and voltage‑drop analyses.
• Analyse lighting illumination levels using DIALux, AGI32 or similar tools.
• Check riser, single‑line, circuit and interconnection diagrams for low‑voltage systems.
• Review cable load schedules, termination drawings and shop‑drawing details.
• Calculate electrical loads in accordance with NEC standards, local regulations and national building codes.
• Comment on design drawings, shop drawings, material submittals and RFIs submitted by contractors.
• Coordinate design with other engineering disciplines and oversee factory‑acceptance testing of LV and MCC switchboards.
• Participate in startup testing of main switchboards, ATS, standby generators, fuel‑distribution, fire‑alarm, fire‑pumps and BMS systems.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in design, review, installation, testing and commissioning of electrical systems for large civil or industrial projects.
• Strong knowledge of international standards (NEC, local authorities) and material/equipment selection.

Required skills

• LV, MCC and ATS switchboard design.
• Low‑voltage cable lighting, fire‑alarm, BMS, earthing and lightning‑protection systems.
• DIALux / AGI32 lighting analysis.
• NEC standards, national building code and RC (Royal Commission) standards.
• Factory‑acceptance testing and startup commissioning of electrical equipment.
