Principal Process Design Engineer (Waste Treatment & Management)

About the role
As a subject‑matter expert you will provide waste treatment and management expertise to the process engineering team and downstream disciplines, designing and optimizing waste treatment technologies for disposal, treatment, and recycling.
Key responsibilities
- Provide guidance to engineering teams to design, develop and implement customized waste treatment, recycling and disposal solutions for hazardous and non‑hazardous waste.
- Collaborate with the process engineering team on Basis of Design, heat & mass balances, PFDs, P&IDs, specifications and control philosophies for waste treatment units.
- Participate in safety reviews (HAZID, HAZOP, SIL) and support the close‑out of recommendations.
- Review technical proposals from vendors and provide bid clarifications.
- Ensure waste management solutions comply with environmental regulations, industry standards (USEPA, ISO) and local jurisdictions.
- Manage waste treatment projects from concept to detailed engineering, including budgeting, scheduling and stakeholder coordination.
- Validate waste characterisation data, develop technology selection reports and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce operating costs.
Required profile
- Strong technical and practical engineering skills with a proven ability to deliver accurate, high‑quality work.
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental, chemical or civil engineering (or related field); a master’s degree is a plus.
- Relevant experience in waste treatment, environmental engineering or related industrial sectors.
- Knowledge of waste treatment processes such as chemical, biological, waste‑to‑energy and recycling.
- Understanding of environmental laws, hazardous waste regulations and ISO certifications.
- Experience with environmental impact assessments and life‑cycle analysis for waste management systems.
- Project management abilities, including scheduling, cost estimation and resource allocation.
Required skills
- MS Office Suite.
- Macro‑based Excel sheets for developing heat & mass balances.
- Engineering software for heat & mass balance calculations.
- Proficiency with process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
- Familiarity with safety analysis tools (HAZID, HAZOP, SIL).
