Safety Engineer – Process & Loss Prevention

About the role

The Safety Engineer provides engineering support to the Loss Prevention & Process Safety Section and refinery business teams, ensuring compliance with established safety systems and sustainable safety practices.

Key responsibilities

• Lead loss‑prevention and process‑safety activities, including site visits, safety awareness, risk communication and HAZOP findings.
• Support OIMS modules (Risk Assessment, Personnel Safety, Incident Investigation) and drive deployment of improvement plans.
• Audit and evaluate safety control programs, develop corrective‑action plans and produce weekly, monthly and annual safety reports (BBSO, incident investigations, occupational injuries, ExxonMobil safety reports).
• Prepare safety talks, safety flashes and monthly Safety Steering Team packages.
• Review engineering packages for projects and modifications, providing safety quality‑control and ensuring compliance with government and ExxonMobil standards.
• Assist business teams with incident classification, IRAT application and timely incident investigations, tracking implementation of recommendations.
• Develop and maintain Refinery Risk Management Plans (RMP) and Risk Control Plans (RCP), reporting progress to the Safe Operations Committee.
• Conduct process hazard identification, risk assessments and process‑safety studies such as HAZOP, ad‑hoc assessments and scenario‑based analyses.

Required profile

• Engineering degree or equivalent technical background.
• Proven experience in loss‑prevention, process safety and refinery environments.
• Strong knowledge of safety management systems, incident investigation and risk‑assessment methodologies.
• Ability to work on‑site, interact with multidisciplinary teams and communicate safety information effectively.
