Director of Education

About the role

The Director of Education will lead the design and delivery of the museum’s educational programmes, creating learning experiences that connect visitors of all ages with the museum’s collections, exhibitions and ideas. Reporting to senior management, the role combines strategic planning, partnership development and operational oversight to ensure high‑quality, curriculum‑aligned education across the institution.

Key responsibilities

• Conceptualise, design and implement education strategies that align with the museum’s mission and values.
• Develop and manage the education budget in collaboration with finance.
• Establish policies, processes and best practices for programme development and delivery.
• Lead the education department, overseeing daily operations, scheduling, volunteer coordination and staff development.
• Collaborate with exhibitions, collections and marketing teams to integrate learning content.
• Create interactive online resources, virtual exhibits and web‑based programmes.
• Evaluate programme effectiveness, monitor attendance and analyse feedback to drive continuous improvement.
• Identify and secure grants, sponsorships and other funding opportunities.
• Build and maintain partnerships with schools, universities and community organisations.

Required profile

• Deep knowledge of the national education system, school curricula and university networks.
• Experience with pedagogical methods and museum learning practices.
• Proven ability to design original, curriculum‑aligned programmes for school groups, families and adult learners.
• Strong managerial and collaborative skills, with experience leading teams and volunteers.
• Ability to assess learning outcomes and implement data‑driven improvements.
