Electrical Secondary Design Engineer – Substation (UAE)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Secondary Design Engineer to support both pre‑bid and execution phases of substation projects in the UAE. The role focuses on creating detailed control, protection and automation designs that meet international standards and client requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Review RFQs, tender specifications and client documents for control, protection and automation needs.
• Prepare preliminary and detailed drawings such as SLDs, schematics, wiring diagrams, inter‑trip logic and SCADA/communication architecture.
• Estimate control and protection scope, including relay panel counts, relay types, cable quantities and I/O requirements.
• Provide technical inputs for proposals, costing, BOQ preparation and bid pricing.
• Recommend relay and protection schemes based on grid codes, technical specifications and cost efficiency.
• Coordinate with OEMs/vendors for quotations, compliance checks and feasibility studies.
• Develop detailed secondary engineering documents during execution, including relay settings, CT/PT sizing, cable schedules and panel GA drawings.
• Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, IS and local utility codes.
• Collaborate with civil, mechanical, fire protection, CCTV and communication teams for integrated designs.
• Participate in design reviews, client meetings, FAT/SAT of panels and support commissioning.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Power Engineering (or equivalent).
• 7–12 years of experience in secondary engineering design for substation projects.
• Strong understanding of transmission project execution methodologies.
• Knowledge of basic civil engineering concepts (preferred).
