Coating Technician – Thermal Spray Operations

About the role

The Coating Technician supports thermal spray coating operations on gas turbine components, handling pre‑coat and post‑coat weighing, as well as coat application. The role emphasizes safety, Lean practices, and continuous improvement to boost quality, delivery, and productivity.

Key responsibilities

• Apply coating according to approved work instructions, process standards, and engineering requirements.
• Perform masking for coating when required, following specifications.
• Read and interpret work instructions and quality forms to ensure accurate application.
• Record and maintain precise process and measurement data.
• Operate coating equipment, weighing devices, fixtures, and hand tools safely.
• Inspect parts before and after coating to verify quality compliance.
• Follow Standard Work and Standard Work Combination Sheets to maintain consistency and efficiency.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in line with 5S standards.
• Apply Lean principles daily and participate in problem‑solving, root‑cause analysis, and corrective actions.
• Identify and communicate opportunities for safety, quality, cycle‑time, flow, and waste reduction.
• Support improvements in standard work, visual management, and process discipline.
• Work within takt time, cycle time, and standard process flow to meet production goals.
• Use shop‑floor systems such as ELM and SmartShop as required.

Required profile

• Diploma, technical college degree, or equivalent hands‑on experience.
• Experience in a technician, manufacturing, coating, or industrial role.
• Minimum 2 years of experience with Thermal Barrier Coating processes.
• Minimum 2 years of experience working with gas turbine components or other precision aerospace/industrial parts.
• Participation in problem‑solving or process‑improvement activities.

Required skills
