Director of Engineering – Pre-Opening Luxury Hotel

About the role

The Director of Engineering will lead the stewardship, protection and performance of the hotel’s physical assets during the pre‑opening phase. Reporting to senior hotel leadership, this role combines strategic oversight with hands‑on technical expertise to ensure a seamless environment for extraordinary guest experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all engineering and maintenance operations, ensuring reliability, safety and operational excellence.
• Develop and execute an engineering strategy aligned with hotel objectives and brand standards.
• Manage departmental budgets, capital projects and long‑term asset protection plans.
• Oversee preventative maintenance programmes for HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, water treatment and electrical systems.
• Champion sustainability and energy‑conservation initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, health, safety, environmental and life‑safety requirements.
• Build, mentor and inspire a high‑performing engineering team.
• Coordinate with owners, contractors, consultants and regional engineering leaders.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in luxury hotels or comparable hospitality environments.
• Strong technical expertise in engineering operations, facilities management and asset lifecycle planning.
• Commercial acumen with experience managing budgets, capital projects and service contracts.
• Demonstrated ability to lead emergency preparedness and life‑safety programmes.
• Relevant engineering or building‑services qualification with hospitality experience.
