Drainage Engineer

About the role

WSP is looking for an experienced Drainage Engineer to join its Construction Supervision team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The role focuses on delivering drainage infrastructure for a major roads and highways project, ensuring compliance with designs, specifications, standards and quality requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise all drainage‑related construction activities, verifying that works follow approved drawings, specifications and project requirements.
• Monitor contractor performance and enforce quality, safety and environmental standards.
• Review and approve construction methodologies, inspection and test plans (ITPs) and method statements.
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits of storm‑water networks, reinforced concrete structures, culverts, open channels, catch pits, headwalls, outfalls and detention facilities.
• Provide technical oversight by reviewing shop drawings, RFIs, material approvals and engineering proposals, and offering practical solutions to construction issues.
• Ensure implementation of quality assurance and control procedures, witness testing and commissioning, and verify material test reports.
• Coordinate with resident engineers, civil and highway engineers, utility engineers, surveyors, HSE teams, contractors, local authorities and client representatives.
• Monitor progress, prepare reports and support resolution of interface issues affecting project delivery.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in highway drainage systems, storm‑water management, culverts, channels, detention facilities and related civil works on large‑scale transportation projects.
• Proven ability to supervise construction, conduct inspections and manage quality assurance processes.
• Strong knowledge of local authority requirements and international engineering standards.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and the capacity to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
