Mechanical Technician

About the role

The Mechanical Technician will work under the direction of the Mechanical Supervisor/Engineer to carry out preventive, corrective and condition‑based maintenance in a power and desalination plant, ensuring strict compliance with safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Comply with all applicable safety rules and regulations.
• Perform plant maintenance activities promptly and safely, following established procedures and work instructions.
• Document equipment maintenance concerns and history.
• Report spare parts and consumable requirements to the Mechanical Supervisor and support spare availability monitoring.
• Ensure proper equipment isolation before starting work, coordinating with the supervisor and local operator.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment problems and carry out required repairs.
• Install, adjust, inspect, service and repair static and rotating mechanical equipment used in power and desalination plants.
• Maintain 5S housekeeping standards within the assigned work area.

Required profile

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or at least 4 years of skilled mechanical labor experience in NOMAC plants.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is preferred.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in a similar mechanical technician role.
• Extensive experience in conventional, combined‑cycle, cogeneration, water desalination (RO, MSF, MED) or renewable energy (solar, wind) plants is advantageous.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and safe work practices.
• Experience with fire protection systems, electrical safety and forklift/hoist operations.
• Proficiency in welding, cutting and brazing techniques.
• Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights and in chemical‑exposed areas, using appropriate PPE.
• Basic computer skills for maintenance documentation.
