Associate Director – Mechanical Building Services

About the role

WSP in the Middle East is hiring a Specialist – Mechanical – Metro stations to join the team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The successful candidate will own the end‑to‑end mechanical station fit‑out design for rail/metro/train stations, covering HVAC, environmental control, smoke control/TVS, stairwell/room pressurisation, cooling of technical spaces and integration with BMS/SCADA, from concept through construction support.

Key responsibilities

• Lead station HVAC and ventilation design, including load estimation, plant sizing, equipment selection and filtration strategy.
• Engineer smoke control and TVS systems, sizing fans, shafts and dampers, and coordinating emergency pressurisation.
• Design cooling and resilience for critical technical rooms with N+1 redundancy and environmental control.
• Perform high‑ambient design considerations such as equipment derating, corrosion mitigation and sand‑ingress protection.
• Deliver BIM models using Revit/AutoCAD and Navisworks, manage clash detection and produce IFC‑ready deliverables.
• Prepare calculations, Basis‑of‑Design, P&IDs, control sequences, equipment schedules and specifications.
• Run CFD/FDS and SES analyses for smoke, comfort and tunnel ventilation where required.
• Manage KSA authority submissions, multidisciplinary design reviews and value‑engineering workshops.
• Provide construction support by responding to RFIs, reviewing vendor submittals and witnessing FAT/SAT.
• Mentor junior engineers, plan workloads and ensure QA/QC of deliverables.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 12–18+ years of experience in building services for major rail/metro station HVAC and ventilation projects, preferably in the GCC.
• Professional registration (e.g., CEng, PE) strongly preferred.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and interact with clients, operators and authorities.

Required skills

• HVAC and ventilation design for underground and above‑ground stations.
• Smoke control/TVS engineering to NFPA/EN standards.
• BIM coordination using Revit, AutoCAD and Navisworks.
• Thermal analysis tools such as HAP, IES, TRACE.
• CFD and fire dynamics simulation tools (CFD, FDS, SES).
• Integration of control philosophies with BMS/SCADA systems.
• Proficiency with MS Office for reporting and documentation.
