Automation Technician – RME (Maintenance Engineering)

About the role

The Automation Technician – RME will support the Facilities Maintenance team by ensuring high availability of control systems and automated material‑handling equipment across the Amazon site in Saudi Arabia. Working hands‑on, you will diagnose faults, perform repairs, and contribute to continuous‑improvement projects that keep the facility running efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the site‑level Subject Matter Expert for all control systems and sensors.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and repair PLC‑controlled automation and conveyor systems to maximise equipment uptime.
• Collaborate with the EU Controls network to collect, visualise and analyse material‑handling metrics.
• Lead or participate in continuous‑improvement initiatives and document all changes in accordance with IEC 61131‑3 and ISO 13849 standards.
• Support the installation, commissioning and documentation of new equipment together with global engineering teams.
• Provide on‑call emergency support and coordinate with external contractors when required.

Required profile

• Minimum 12 months of experience in PLC‑controlled automation and issue diagnosis.
• At least 2 years working with automated conveyor systems and control technologies.
• Familiarity with engineering documentation, IEC 61131‑3, ISO 13849 and CE Machinery Directive.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for reporting and data analysis.
• Ability to work independently, lead technicians and communicate effectively with cross‑functional teams.
