About the role
The Cardiovascular Technician works in a catheterization laboratory, supporting physicians during diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac procedures. The role involves patient preparation, equipment operation, monitoring, and emergency response to ensure safe and accurate cardiovascular testing.
Key responsibilities
- Register patients, verify identification, review consultation requests, and confirm medical history.
- Explain procedures, position patients, and attach ECG leads, blood‑pressure cuffs, and saturation probes.
- Monitor patient comfort and vital signs throughout electrocardiogram, echocardiogram, stress tests, and other imaging modalities.
- Perform and record measurements such as IFR, IVUS, OCT, valve areas, cardiac output, and pressure gradients.
- Maintain radiation safety protocols in the cath lab, including use of lead aprons and shields.
- Respond rapidly to emergencies, delivering CPR, operating defibrillators, and connecting intra‑aortic balloon pump (IABP) machines.
- Operate multi‑channel physiologic monitors, calibrate transducers, and ensure accurate pressure readings.
- Assist physicians with catheter navigation, documentation, and labeling of supplies.
- Maintain equipment functionality, troubleshoot issues, and record usage of medications and materials.
- Follow asepsis standards, infection‑prevention guidelines, and legal regulations to keep a safe work environment.
Required profile
- Experience working in a cardiac catheterization or cardiovascular diagnostics setting.
- Ability to follow detailed procedural protocols and maintain accurate patient records.
- Capacity to work efficiently under pressure and respond to emergency situations.
Required skills
- ECG lead placement and interpretation.
- Blood‑pressure monitoring and pulse‑oximetry.
- Echocardiography and stress‑test operation.
- Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and optical coherence tomography (OCT).
- Use of defibrillator and intra‑aortic balloon pump (IABP) equipment.
- Multi‑channel physiologic monitor operation.
- Catheter handling and navigation.
- Transducer calibration and chest leveling.
- Equipment troubleshooting and maintenance.
