Cast Technician – Orthopedic Support

About the role

The Cast Technician provides essential support to orthopedic physicians by applying, removing, and maintaining casts, splints, braces, and other immobilisation devices. The role focuses on patient‑centered care, safety, and accurate documentation within an outpatient orthopedic setting.

Key responsibilities

• Apply, remove, repair and modify casts, splints and braces according to physician orders.
• Assist physicians during fracture reduction procedures and ensure proper patient positioning.
• Assess neurovascular status before and after casting and monitor for complications.
• Educate patients and families on cast care, activity restrictions and signs of complications.
• Document all procedures, materials used and patient observations in the EMR.
• Maintain inventory of casting supplies and ensure equipment is clean and functional.

Required profile

• Diploma in Cast Technology, Orthopedic Technology, Healthcare Sciences or related field.
• Certification as a Cast Technician or Orthopedic Technician preferred.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Minimum 2 years experience in orthopedic, trauma or outpatient orthopedic settings.
• Familiarity with infection‑prevention protocols and EMR systems.

Required skills

• Proficiency in applying and removing various types of casts, splints and braces.
• Ability to perform neurovascular assessments and identify casting complications.
• Experience using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
