Consultant Hematologist

About the role

The Consultant Hematologist provides expert medical care for patients with hematological disorders, ensuring evidence‑based diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management. This role contributes to clinical excellence, patient safety, education, and continuous quality improvement within a multidisciplinary environment.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and establish accurate hematology diagnoses.
• Manage outpatient consultations and deliver specialized hematology services.
• Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans, including prescribing medications and blood products.
• Monitor patient progress, evaluate outcomes, and adjust management plans as needed.
• Explain diagnoses, procedures, and treatment options to patients and families.
• Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with other specialties.
• Perform hematology‑related diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within professional privileges.
• Participate in inpatient care, including admissions, ward rounds, and discharge planning.
• Maintain accurate medical records and review documentation from junior staff.
• Supervise, mentor, and support physicians in training and allied health professionals.
• Ensure compliance with clinical guidelines, ethics, quality standards, and patient safety requirements.
• Participate in on‑call coverage, emergency response, quality improvement programs, and clinical audits.
• Engage in medical education, research, and professional development activities.

Required profile

• Medical degree from a recognized institution with completed internship and residency.
• Postgraduate qualification and board certification in Hematology or a related specialty.
• Valid professional medical license and eligibility for registration with relevant regulatory authorities.
• Minimum of 3 years post‑specialization experience in Hematology, preferably in tertiary or highly specialized settings.
• Additional subspecialty training or fellowship is advantageous.
