Consultant Pediatric Ophthalmologist (Strabismus)

About the role

The Consultant Pediatric Ophthalmologist (Strabismus) will deliver specialised clinical and surgical care for children with strabismus and other paediatric eye conditions in a high‑volume private‑sector setting. The role requires a Western‑trained, Tier‑1 consultant able to manage outpatient clinics efficiently while performing advanced strabismus surgeries.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and treat the full spectrum of paediatric ophthalmic disorders, including esotropia, exotropia, vertical deviations and amblyopia.
• Perform high‑precision strabismus surgeries (horizontal, vertical, re‑operations, adjustable sutures where trained).
• Conduct paediatric clinics, orthoptic assessments and comprehensive pre‑ and post‑operative care.
• Collaborate closely with orthoptists, optometrists, anaesthesiologists and multidisciplinary paediatric teams.
• Maintain accurate EMR documentation and uphold international safety, infection‑control and clinical‑governance standards.

Required profile

• Tier‑1 qualification: UK CCT/CESR, US Board Certification with paediatric fellowship, Canadian RCPSC, Irish CSCST, Australian FRANZCO, or German Facharzt in paediatric ophthalmology/strabismus.
• 3–5 years post‑consultant experience in paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, with a high surgical case volume.
• Eligibility for SCFHS Consultant licence (or equivalent) and completion of DataFlow PSV.
