Customs Investigation Lead Specialist

About the role

The Customs Investigation Lead Specialist is responsible for end‑to‑end review and validation of complex seizure reports, ensuring completeness, accuracy and legal soundness before escalation. The role conducts advanced analysis of documentary, physical and testimonial evidence to establish violations and intent, determines criminal liability and approves case outcomes for referral to public prosecution.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret customs laws, enforcement regulations and procedural frameworks for internal stakeholders.
• Identify systemic issues, risks and gaps in investigation practices and recommend corrective actions.
• Review and endorse critical documentation such as seizure reports, interview records and prosecution requests.
• Oversee suspect interview processes, ensuring compliance with legal and procedural standards.
• Validate that public prosecution notifications are accurate and submitted within mandated timelines.
• Mentor investigation teams, providing technical guidance and capability development.
• Contribute to policy development, standardisation of procedures and continuous improvement initiatives in customs enforcement.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Administration or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in customs, legal enforcement, regulatory compliance or investigative roles.
