Derrickhand – Saudi Arabia

About the role

The Derrickhand is responsible for the mud system and associated equipment on an oil‑rig, while also performing various manual tasks across the site. This full‑time position requires close collaboration with the driller, floorhands and service companies to ensure safe and efficient drilling operations.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor mud pump performance, exchange expendable items and conduct routine maintenance.
• Lock out and tag equipment during repairs, ensuring safe isolation.
• Oversee drilling fluid condition, conduct basic analysis, and manage mud tank levels.
• Transfer fluids, maintain solids control equipment, and arrange valve settings.
• Direct roughnecks and roustabouts during mud‑system repairs and maintenance.
• Report changes in fluid volume, flow, temperature, contamination, and equipment status to the driller.
• Maintain inventory of chemicals and fluids for drilling‑fluid treatment.
• Perform daily, weekly and monthly service on overhead equipment used for tubular handling.
• Position yourself safely at the derrick board during tripping operations.
• Inspect rig equipment from floor to crown, taking remedial action as needed.
• Demonstrate knowledge of rig well‑control equipment (BOPE) and operate it on command.

Required profile

• At least 24 months of experience in rig or mud‑system operations.
• Computer literate with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and H&P applications.
• Team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Commitment to the H&P safety standards and core values.
