Design Manager (Master Planning)

About the role

AECOM is seeking a Design Manager to join its team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The role leads the design function, drives creative excellence and ensures strategic alignment with organizational goals. You will oversee design operations, mentor designers and collaborate across departments to deliver design solutions that exceed customer expectations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, evaluate and implement design strategies, plans and criteria for projects and initiatives
• Assess the feasibility, soundness and innovation potential of proposed design concepts
• Lead, mentor and support a team of designers in a collaborative environment
• Oversee large-scale design projects, brand development and design system implementations
• Ensure compliance with design standards, quality benchmarks and regulations
• Act as technical advisor and consultant to stakeholders and leadership
• Evaluate design operations and team performance, and prepare detailed reports with recommendations
• Manage design budgets and resources while maintaining quality standards
• Collaborate with product, marketing and engineering teams and advise leadership on design strategy and industry trends

Required profile

• 15 years of professional design experience, with at least 8 years in a leadership or management capacity
• Proven expertise in design management, team leadership and project oversight
• Experience developing design strategies, setting design standards and managing multiple concurrent initiatives
• Experience in stakeholder management and advising senior leadership
• Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Design, Fine Arts, Graphic Design or a related field

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma or Sketch
• Budget management and resource allocation
• Preferred: knowledge of design thinking, user-centered design, design compliance and accessibility standards
