ITS CAD Design Engineer – Intelligent Traffic Systems

About the role

The ITS CAD Design Engineer creates and modifies detailed engineering drawings for roadside and gantry‑mounted intelligent traffic networks, ensuring compliance with Saudi Road Code, Tahakom and KSA Ministry of Transport standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop detailed internal layout drawings for roadside and gantry cabinets, including component placement and rail configurations.
• Draft wiring schematics, power distribution (AC/DC), surge protection, and cooling/ventilation designs.
• Create 2D/3D structural equipment layouts for highway gantries, cantilevers, and roadside poles housing speed radars, ANPR cameras and VMS.
• Produce electrical termination drawings, loop detector installations, and field‑to‑cabinet interface layouts.
• Design structured cabling and fiber optic routing, and map network topologies connecting field equipment to control centres.
• Prepare underground conduit layouts, trench cross‑sections and manage civil/utility clash detection.
• Adapt designs for desert conditions, ensuring IP65/IP66 protection and heat‑resilience.
• Maintain drawing revisions, red‑lines and deliver As‑Built packages and Bills of Materials.

Required profile

• 3–5 years of CAD drafting experience, with at least 2 years on ITS or highway infrastructure projects, preferably in GCC/KSA.
• Professional proficiency in English; Arabic is a plus.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with civil, electrical and network engineers.
• Excellent time‑management and ability to handle multiple design deadlines.
• Analytical problem‑solving mindset to resolve layout errors and utility clashes.

Required skills

• AutoCAD or MicroStation (expert level).
• Civil 3D or BIM workflow exposure.
• Knowledge of industrial networking hardware, managed switches, media converters, fiber and copper media.
• Understanding of Ethernet, Serial, RS‑485 and NTCIP protocols.
• Familiarity with Saudi Road Code (SRC), Tahakom specifications and KSA Ministry of Transport standards.
