Lab Equipment Maintenance Specialist - Hydraulics Unit

About the role

The Lab Equipment Maintenance Specialist provides professional service and support for laboratory research equipment, performing field service reactive maintenance repairs, preventive maintenance and calibrations. The specialist acts as a mentor to junior maintenance personnel and prepares and delivers user training on equipment operation and maintenance. The role focuses on cooling systems, growth chambers, autoclaves and glass washers, working within the guidelines of the LEM head and Laboratory Equipment Maintenance Leads.

Key responsibilities

• Perform reactive and preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment such as cooling systems, growth chambers, autoclaves and glass washers
• Troubleshoot and repair equipment quickly to maximise uptime and minimise maintenance costs
• Coordinate maintenance schedules with end-users to keep research activities running smoothly
• Mentor junior technicians and conduct training sessions on equipment operation and preventive maintenance
• Communicate with vendors and manufacturers for technical support, spare parts and training
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, communications and equipment status
• Follow HSE and institutional safety policies
• Work with maintenance leads to improve workflows, increase automation and raise service levels
• Help manage spare parts by identifying needs, optimising inventory and assisting with ordering

Required profile

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in HVACR or a related field
• At least five years of experience maintaining refrigeration equipment, using maintenance reporting systems and applying customer-focused techniques
• Experience with equipment from manufacturers such as Buchi, CLF Plant Climatics, Systec, GE, Labconco, Liebherr, Smeg, Panasonic, Peak, Percival and Thermo-Fisher is desirable; experience with other major manufacturers is considered
• Experience with ultra-low temperature freezers, glassware washers, heat exchangers, press machines, chillers, heaters and ovens
• Strong planning and organisational skills
