About the role
The Light Vehicle Mechanic will maintain and repair the mining company's fleet of light vehicles, including 4x4 pickups and utility trucks, ensuring safe operation, high availability, and minimal downtime in demanding field conditions.
Key responsibilities
- Perform scheduled inspections, preventive maintenance, servicing, and repairs on light vehicles.
- Diagnose and fix mechanical, electrical, steering, suspension, braking, cooling, fuel, transmission, and driveline faults.
- Carry out routine tasks such as oil and filter changes, lubrication, brake inspections, fluid checks, belt replacement, and battery testing.
- Use diagnostic scanners, multimeters, pressure gauges and other test equipment to identify faults and verify performance after repairs.
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, workshop manuals, service schedules, technical bulletins and OEM specifications.
- Inspect tyres, wheels, brakes, suspension, steering and other safety‑critical components and report defects.
- Conduct component removal, replacement, adjustment and minor overhauls following approved procedures.
- Perform pre‑service and post‑repair road tests where authorized.
- Respond to breakdowns in the workshop and field, restoring equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, job cards, parts usage and service history in the maintenance system.
- Identify recurring failures and provide technical feedback for reliability improvement.
- Coach junior mechanics and local nationals through practical guidance and knowledge transfer.
Required profile
- Technical Diploma, Trade Certificate, Automotive Mechanic qualification or equivalent vocational training.
- Minimum 5 years hands‑on experience as a Light Vehicle/Automotive Mechanic, preferably in mining, drilling, construction or remote‑site operations.
- Strong practical experience with 4x4 diesel and petrol vehicles, such as Toyota Hilux and Toyota Land Cruiser.
Required skills
- Use of diagnostic scanners, multimeters and pressure gauges.
- Interpretation of vehicle wiring diagrams and OEM service manuals.
- Mechanical, electrical, steering, suspension, braking, cooling, fuel, transmission and driveline repair.
- Routine maintenance tasks: oil & filter changes, lubrication, brake inspection, fluid checks, belt replacement, battery testing.
- Inspection of tyres, wheels, brakes, suspension and steering components.
