About the role

The Medical Approval Specialist evaluates medical documentation to determine the necessity and appropriateness of requested treatments, procedures, medications, and services. This role ensures that clinical decisions align with established guidelines while balancing patient care quality and cost efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Review and analyze clinical data to verify compliance with medical guidelines and standards of care.
• Make approval or denial decisions for medical services and document the rationale.
• Communicate with physicians, nurses, and other providers to gather additional information or clarify clinical details.
• Provide guidance on alternative treatment options and utilization management strategies.
• Maintain accurate records of the approval process in line with regulatory and organizational policies.
• Collaborate with utilization management teams to streamline workflows and address complex cases.
• Stay updated on medical research, technology, and treatment advancements to support evidence‑based decisions.
• Identify denial trends, conduct root‑cause analysis, and develop corrective action plans.
• Ensure compliance with government and payer regulations.
• Participate in peer‑review activities and quality‑improvement initiatives.
