Outpatient Pharmacist

About the role

The Outpatient Pharmacist ensures safe, accurate, and timely dispensing of medications for patients in an outpatient setting, supporting high patient satisfaction and adherence to clinical standards.

Key responsibilities

• Review, interpret, and verify physician medication orders, checking for dosage accuracy, drug interactions, and clinical indications.
• Communicate with prescribers to resolve ambiguities or concerns.
• Oversee preparation, double‑check labeling, and dispense verified medications.
• Calculate dosages based on patient weight and age.
• Enter prescriptions into the Fakeeh Care CPOE/HIS system before dispensing.
• Promptly notify patients when medications are ready, minimizing wait times.
• Counsel patients and caregivers on proper medication use, storage, and potential interactions.
• Maintain inventory control, secure storage of narcotics, and manage near‑expiry medications according to policy.
• Charge patients for dispensed medications and document all transactions.
• Apply infection‑prevention standards when handling IV and TPN formulations.
• Participate in training new pharmacists, students, and trainees.
• Report medication errors or adverse drug reactions and attend continuing education programs.

Required profile

• Licensed pharmacist with knowledge of medication safety, controlled substances, and hazardous material handling.
• Familiarity with formulary management, generic substitution, and prescription quantity limits.
• Ability to educate patients and families about health conditions and treatment plans.
• Commitment to continuous improvement and adherence to person‑centered care values.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CPOE (Computerized Physician Order Entry) systems and pharmacy information software.
• Inventory management and record‑keeping for pharmaceutical supplies.
• Accurate dosage calculation based on patient parameters.
