Plant Labelling Officer

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Plant Labelling Officer to ensure accurate identification, documentation, labelling and mapping of living plant collections in a botanic garden setting. The role works closely with botanists, horticulturists and curators to keep plant information consistent across physical labels, databases and visitor‑facing materials.

Key responsibilities

• Create, install, inspect and maintain plant labels for indoor and outdoor collections, ensuring scientific and common names, family, origin and accession details are correct.
• Conduct regular audits to detect missing, damaged or outdated labels and coordinate their replacement.
• Maintain plant‑record databases, accession logs and GIS‑based mapping systems, updating locations, provenance and movement information.
• Support integration of plant data with digital tools such as QR‑code systems, mobile applications and interactive maps.
• Develop visitor‑facing interpretation material and translate technical botanical information into clear content.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Botany, Plant Sciences or related field; postgraduate qualification is a plus.
• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in horticulture, botanical collections or plant identification.
• Proven ability to verify botanical nomenclature and conduct quality‑control reviews of physical and digital plant information.
• Experience delivering horticulture training programmes and preparing technical guides or educational resources.
