Principal Equipment Design Engineer – Power Generation

About the role

The Principal Equipment Design Engineer will lead the mechanical engineering effort for large‑scale thermal power plants (700 MW and above). This senior position provides technical leadership across FEED, detailed design, procurement support and commissioning, ensuring safe, reliable and cost‑effective solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, supervise and mentor a team of mechanical engineers and designers.
• Develop engineering execution plans, deliverable registers, manpower plans and schedules.
• Review and approve equipment data sheets, specifications, calculations and vendor documentation.
• Provide technical bid evaluation, procurement support and vendor drawing coordination.
• Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, constructability studies and value‑engineering initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; professional registration (PE, CEng) desirable.
• Minimum 15 years of experience on medium to large power‑generation projects, including combined‑cycle, cogeneration or conventional thermal plants.
• Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary interfaces and ensure quality, integrity and timely delivery of engineering deliverables.

Required skills

• Extensive knowledge of international codes and standards such as ASME, ANSI, API, NFPA, OSHA, ISA, NEC and IEC.
• Proficiency with power‑plant simulation tools (Thermoflow, GT PRO, GateCycle, PEPSE or equivalents).
• Experience in design, procurement, installation, mechanical completion, pre‑commissioning, commissioning and performance testing of rotating and static equipment.
