Principal Equipment Design Engineer - Power Generation

About the role

We are seeking a Principal Equipment Design Engineer to lead the mechanical design of power generation equipment and auxiliary systems for large-scale thermal power plants in Saudi Arabia. The role provides technical leadership across the project lifecycle, from FEED and detailed engineering through procurement, construction, commissioning and performance testing.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, supervise and mentor a team of mechanical engineers and designers.
• Develop engineering execution plans, deliverable registers, manpower plans and schedules.
• Review and approve equipment data sheets, specifications, calculations and vendor documentation.
• Provide technical bid evaluation, procurement support and vendor drawing coordination.
• Coordinate mechanical activities with other disciplines and ensure compliance with codes, standards and company procedures.
• Drive safety, reliability, maintainability and cost-optimization initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 15 years of experience in power generation projects (≥700 MW), including FEED, detailed engineering and procurement.
• Experience with combined-cycle, cogeneration or conventional thermal plants.
• Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer qualification is desirable.
• Experience in oil & gas, industrial utilities or energy transition projects is an advantage.

Required skills

• Extensive knowledge of international codes and standards (ASME, ANSI, API, NFPA, OSHA, ISA, NEC, IEC).
• Proficiency with power-plant simulation tools such as Thermoflow, GT PRO, GateCycle and PEPSE.
• Strong background in design, procurement, installation, mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup and performance testing of power generation equipment.
• Expertise in engineering design methodologies, construction practices and commissioning procedures.
