Principal Mechanical Engineer – Mining Project

About the role

Wood is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design of a new gold mine and processing facility in a remote location in Saudi Arabia. You will own all mechanical engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with codes, standards, and client procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Take single‑point responsibility for all mechanical equipment design deliverables.
• Prepare and review Technical Work Practices and standards.
• Coordinate the Mechanical team and report progress to the Project/Engineering Manager.
• Support planning, scheduling, man‑hour estimating and bid/tender preparation.
• Mentor Saudi engineers on design methods, code interpretation, and engineering processes.
• Manage discipline work, personnel allocation, timesheets, and overtime approvals.
• Track and report mechanical design budgets, productivity and progress.
• Engage with licensors, equipment vendors and OEMs, and define scope for third‑party sub‑contracts.

Required profile

• Minimum 15 years of experience in mechanical engineering for mining or processing projects.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and mentor junior engineers.
• Strong knowledge of engineering codes, standards and client procedures.
• Experience managing budgets, schedules and third‑party vendors.
