Refrigeration Technician

About the role

The Refrigeration Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial refrigeration systems. The role requires strong mechanical and electrical skills, a focus on safety and quality, and the ability to work on-site in various environments.

Key responsibilities

• Install refrigeration systems according to approved drawings, including refrigerant piping, electrical and controls wiring.
• Perform pressure testing, evacuation, charging, start‑up and commissioning of systems.
• Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance on condensing units and central rack systems.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and refrigerant faults.
• Respond to breakdowns and emergency service calls, including after‑hours support.
• Complete service reports, maintenance logs and work orders accurately.
• Record refrigerant usage and system readings to meet compliance requirements.
• Communicate system status and repair recommendations to supervisors and project engineers.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational HVAC‑R training preferred.
• 2–5+ years of hands‑on experience with commercial refrigeration, especially condensing units and rack systems.
• Knowledge of refrigeration cycles, electrical/mechanical systems and ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, gauges and diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces and in cold environments.
• Valid driver’s license.
