About the role
The Rig Safety Coach will act as the visible HSE representative on an offshore rig, promoting ARO’s safety culture and ensuring compliance with health, safety and environmental standards. Working primarily on‑site (approximately 75% of the day) across high‑risk areas such as the deck and drill floor, the coach will drive daily risk‑based activities and support the crew in maintaining a safe operating environment.
Key responsibilities
- Demonstrate and reinforce ARO’s vision, mission and values while promoting personal accountability for HSE.
- Maintain a strong presence on‑site, especially in high‑risk zones, and plan daily activities using the 72‑hour operational look‑ahead.
- Promote ARO’s Golden Rules and facilitate the Stop Observe Act Report (SOAR) program, reviewing critical findings.
- Ensure understanding and proper use of Stop Work Authority (SWA), coaching crew as needed.
- Monitor compliance with ACE and control‑of‑work systems such as Permit to Work, Toolbox Talks, Risk Assessments and Rescue Planning.
- Conduct safety inspections, audits and support internal/external audit closure.
- Deliver engaging safety training, inductions and orientation, and oversee the Short Service Employee (SSE) process.
- Investigate safety incidents, analyse data trends, produce weekly HSE reports and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Liaise with customer representatives, regulatory bodies and perform emergency duties per the Emergency Response Plan.
Required profile
- Associate degree (or equivalent) with at least two years in an HSE role, or high school diploma with at least four years of HSE experience.
- Previous offshore industry experience in an HSE capacity.
- Formal investigation training certification preferred (e.g., Taproot®, Topset®).
- Recognised HSE qualifications preferred (NEBOSH, IOSH, ASP/CSP or equivalent).
- ISO 45001 certification is a plus.
Required skills
- Knowledge of risk‑based planning and operational look‑ahead processes.
- Familiarity with ACE safety systems, Permit to Work, Toolbox Talks, Risk Assessments and Rescue Planning.
- Ability to conduct safety inspections, audits and deliver effective training.
- Strong investigative skills for incident root‑cause analysis.
