Senior Risk Officer

About the role

The Senior Risk Officer will support the delivery of HMMME’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) programme. Working closely with the Risk Manager and first‑line risk owners, the role ensures that risks are identified, assessed, monitored and reported accurately across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the enterprise risk register and Key Risk Indicators, updating risk treatment plans with owners.
• Facilitate and co‑facilitate risk workshops, documenting risks, causes, consequences and controls.
• Prepare clear risk assessment outputs and regular reports for senior management and the Audit & Risk Committee.
• Support the Risk Manager in day‑to‑day ERM delivery and review work of junior staff or contractors where assigned.
• Provide coaching and knowledge transfer to risk owners and workshop participants.
• Propose practical improvements to risk processes, tools and promote a strong risk culture.
• Collaborate with Internal Audit, Compliance, HSE, Finance and Operations to gather risk information.
• Build relationships with risk owners to stay informed of operational developments affecting the risk profile.
• Execute deep‑dive assessments and scenario analyses on specific risk areas such as supply chain, project delivery and compliance.
• Operate within the Risk Function’s budget and adhere to the ERM policy and Delegation of Authority.

Required profile

• Proven experience in enterprise risk management or a similar risk‑focused role.
• Strong analytical ability to assess, score and monitor risks using a defined methodology.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills to work with senior stakeholders across functions.
• Ability to coach and mentor first‑line risk owners and junior team members.
• Proactive attitude towards continuous improvement and fostering a risk‑aware culture.
