About the role

The role sits at the core of a global payments infrastructure platform, where you will design and scale backend systems that handle high‑volume, mission‑critical financial transactions. Operating at staff level, you will shape technical direction across multiple engineering teams while staying hands‑on in system design and implementation.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive backend engineering strategy across multiple teams, ensuring alignment between architecture, scalability needs, and product goals.
• Own the design and evolution of distributed backend systems that support high‑performance payment infrastructure and third‑party integrations.
• Set technical direction for backend and platform engineering teams, including architecture decisions and system design standards.
• Design and build scalable, reliable distributed systems that support global payment flows and partner integrations.
• Act as the technical authority for third‑party PSP and partner connectivity, ensuring seamless integration experiences.
• Influence engineering practices through design reviews, code contributions, and mentorship.
• Identify and resolve cross‑team dependencies and technical bottlenecks before they impact delivery.
• Partner closely with product and engineering leadership to shape roadmap priorities based on technical constraints and opportunities.
• Drive engineering excellence by adopting best practices such as testing strategies, rigorous documentation, and scalable design principles.

Required profile

• Deep backend engineering expertise with a proven track record in building and scaling distributed systems.
• Experience operating at a senior staff or principal level in complex, distributed environments.
• Comfortable driving technical direction across teams and influencing without formal authority.
• Strong understanding of payments infrastructure, developer platforms, or complex integration systems.
• Hands‑on experience delivering high‑volume, mission‑critical financial transaction platforms.
