Track Alignment Engineer – Design (Dammam)

About the role

SYSTRA is looking for a Track Alignment Engineer with a solid design background to support a major rail client in Saudi Arabia. The role will lead and assure track alignment design across mainline, depot and yard tracks, ensuring compliance with client standards and international rail regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Engineering Lead in reviewing horizontal and vertical alignment designs using Bentley OpenRail, Civil 3D and MX.
• Define and enforce geometric design criteria, alignment control parameters and tolerances throughout concept, preliminary and detailed design phases.
• Conduct design checks, optioneering and value‑engineering for alignments, turnouts, crossovers and transition curves.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces (civil, structures, trackwork, OCS, signalling, drainage, utilities) as the integrated PMC representative.
• Manage technical queries, change requests and design approvals while maintaining audit trails and configuration control.
• Lead design risk management for alignment choices, considering ground conditions, utilities, third‑party constraints and environmental factors.
• Oversee contractor and designer performance, maintain design schedules and registers, and prepare technical reports for client stakeholders.
• Ensure constructability and staging are embedded in the alignment design and support site teams during construction.

Required profile

• Solid background in rail track alignment design.
• Experience supporting engineering leads and managing multidisciplinary coordination.
• Ability to conduct design risk assessments and value‑engineering studies.

Required skills

• Knowledge of international and regional rail standards
• Understanding of RAMS, maintainability and ride‑quality considerations
