Clinical Perfusionist

About the role

Responsible for setting up and operating extracorporeal circulation equipment to take over the functions of a patient’s heart and lungs during surgery or respiratory failure. The role also supports the Heart Centre with additional perfusion technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Review patient medical history and configure the cardiopulmonary bypass machine and associated equipment.
• Assemble, test, and operate the bypass machine to maintain blood circulation, administer drugs, and control body temperature.
• Monitor physiological variables, adjust equipment, and troubleshoot perfusion technology during procedures.
• Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and calibration of heart‑lung machines and ancillary devices.
• Provide extracorporeal long‑term life support and assist devices for adult and paediatric patients.
• Operate intra‑operative autotransfusion (cell saver) equipment and intra‑aortic balloon counter‑pulsation support.
• Support organ transplant programmes and manage patient outcome databases.

Required profile

• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in a health‑allied or science field and graduation from a perfusion‑training program.
• Current registration with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS) and the country of origin.
• Two years of experience with a Master’s degree or four years with a Bachelor’s degree in clinical perfusion.
