Detailing Engineer – Events

About the role

The Detailing Engineer will work in SELA’s fabrication and production workshop, turning design concepts, 3D renders and architectural drawings into detailed, build‑ready shop drawings for event sets, exhibition stands and scenic structures. Acting as the technical bridge between designers and the workshop floor, you will ensure accuracy, material efficiency, structural integrity and safe rigging before any fabrication begins.

Key responsibilities

• Produce 2D shop drawings and cutting lists from approved concepts for carpentry, metalwork and scenic elements.
• Create 3D models (AutoCAD, SketchUp, Tekla, Solidworks, etc.) to validate dimensions, tolerances and assembly sequences.
• Generate material take‑offs and bills of quantities for timber, steel, aluminum, MDF, acrylic and other media.
• Detail load‑bearing connections, weld points and rigging points, ensuring compliance with Saudi event safety codes.
• Perform clash detection against MEP, AV, lighting and rigging layouts.
• Coordinate with installation teams, designers and project managers to resolve on‑site queries and update as‑built drawings.
• Prepare CNC cutting and routing files and maintain version‑controlled drawing registers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical, Civil, Structural Engineering, Architecture or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of detailing or drafting experience in event production, exhibition stand fabrication or a similar workshop environment.
• Strong understanding of carpentry, metalwork, rigging and structural connections.
• Familiarity with Saudi and international codes for temporary structures.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and communicate clearly with design and shop‑floor teams.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and SketchUp.
• Working knowledge of Tekla Structures, Solidworks, Rhino or 3ds Max.
• Experience preparing CNC cutting and machine‑ready files.
• Knowledge of material properties and fabrication tolerances.
