Engineer, Geotechnical

About the role

The Geotechnical Engineer supports mining operations by investigating ground conditions, testing soil and rock samples, and providing technical input to manage hazards and risks. This role combines field work, laboratory analysis, and engineering design to ensure safe and efficient mine planning.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct field investigations such as geological mapping, soil sampling, rock core logging, and groundwater monitoring.
• Perform in‑situ and laboratory tests on soil and rock specimens to determine geotechnical properties.
• Maintain and calibrate geotechnical equipment and instrumentation for reliable data collection.
• Analyze data for slope stability, rock mass characterization, and groundwater modeling, and contribute to design recommendations.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, charts, and diagrams to communicate findings.
• Collaborate with mining, civil, and environmental engineers to integrate geotechnical considerations into mine design and operations.
• Provide training and mentorship to junior technicians and field assistants.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, or a related field (preferred).
• 3‑5 years of experience in geotechnical fieldwork, laboratory testing, and data analysis, preferably in mining or construction.
• Experience with site reconnaissance, instrumentation installation, and use of geotechnical equipment.
• Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations related to geotechnical activities.
