Java Backend Engineer (Microservices, Quarkus)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Java Backend Engineer to design, build, and maintain micro‑services in a regulated banking environment. The role focuses on developing high‑performance services using Java, Quarkus and reactive programming, and requires close collaboration with cross‑functional squads.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend micro‑services using Java and Quarkus.
• Implement and consume REST/reactive APIs within a distributed micro‑services architecture.
• Integrate caching, session handling and performance‑critical logic with Redis.
• Write comprehensive unit and integration tests, maintaining code‑coverage standards with JaCoCo.
• Enforce code quality, formatting standards and structured JSON logging for observability.
• Participate in contract testing to ensure safe integration across services.
• Collaborate using GitLab workflows (feature branching, merge requests, hotfix sequencing, release coordination).
• Maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated build, test and deployment.
• Work with Maven‑based builds, conduct code reviews and contribute to design discussions.
• Debug and resolve production issues following change‑management protocols.

Required profile

• 5‑10 years of professional backend development experience.
• Strong hands‑on experience with Java and willingness to work with Quarkus.
• Solid understanding of micro‑services architecture patterns and reactive programming concepts.
• Experience with Redis or similar in‑memory data stores.
• Proficiency with Git/GitLab branching strategies and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with Maven build systems and unit/integration testing tools.
• Strong debugging and problem‑solving skills in distributed systems.
• Good communication skills and ability to work within cross‑functional squads.
