Lead Engineer – Primary Substation Design

About the role

Larsen & Toubro is seeking a Lead Engineer (Primary) to head the design and execution of AIS and GIS substation projects across multiple locations in Saudi Arabia. The role combines technical leadership with hands‑on engineering to ensure high‑quality, on‑time delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Review and execute primary engineering activities for outdoor EHV switchyards and GIS/AIS substations.
• Lead the development of BIM 3D models for substation projects.
• Coordinate inter‑departmental checks covering electrical, civil/structural, MEP and related disciplines.
• Provide engineering support from pre‑bid stages through commissioning and warranty periods.
• Manage a team of design engineers and draughtspersons, controlling budget, schedule and quality.

Required profile

• 10–12 years of overall engineering experience, including 4–7 years in primary substation engineering.
• Strong knowledge of outdoor EHV switchyards, GIS substations and layout engineering.
• Experience with vendor preorder and post‑order reviews in AIS and GIS projects.
• Preferably exposure to metro or industrial substation environments.
