About the role
The Maintenance Technician (Mechatronics) ensures the reliability of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and automated systems used across the company’s production workshop, event structures and kinetic installations. This hands‑on role combines mechanical, electrical and PLC expertise to keep equipment running with zero downtime during show‑critical periods.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and follow preventive maintenance schedules for workshop machinery and event/show equipment.
- Perform routine inspection, lubrication, cleaning, calibration and adjustment of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Diagnose and repair faults in mechanical assemblies, motors, gearboxes, sensors, actuators and control systems to minimise downtime.
- Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns during fabrication, load‑in and live‑show windows, prioritising safety‑critical equipment.
- Install, test and maintain PLC‑driven automation and motion‑control systems used in event productions.
- Troubleshoot PLC I/O, sensors, VFDs, control panels and low‑voltage wiring.
- Maintain and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems for staging lifts and motion equipment.
- Support testing and commissioning of new equipment and automated set pieces.
- Follow lock‑out/tag‑out, electrical safety and machine‑guarding procedures and keep accurate maintenance logs.
- Coordinate with installation and electrical team leaders to keep tools and machinery production‑ready.
Required profile
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Electromechanical Engineering, Automation or a related field.
- At least 3 years of hands‑on maintenance experience in mechatronics, industrial automation, amusement‑ride or theatrical show environments.
- Relevant safety certifications such as IOSH, NEBOSH or equivalent are preferred.
- Ability to work independently under time pressure and provide guidance to workshop staff.
Required skills
- PLC programming and troubleshooting (Siemens, Allen‑Bradley or equivalent).
- Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) and motor‑control systems.
- Hydraulic and pneumatic system maintenance.
- Mechanical power transmission components (gearboxes, belts, chains, bearings).
- Use of diagnostic tools including multimeters and specialised software.
- Installation and commissioning of automation and motion‑control equipment.
