Materials Inspector

About the role

AtkinsRéalis is looking for a Materials Inspector to ensure that all roadwork materials meet project specifications and standards. You will be responsible for inspecting, sampling, and testing a wide range of construction materials, maintaining traceability, and supporting quality assurance on site.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect incoming aggregates, asphalt, concrete, steel, and geotextiles against approved documentation.
• Witness and record field and laboratory tests such as sieve analysis, Atterberg limits, compaction/density, slump, and Marshall tests.
• Verify batch tickets, delivery notes, mill certificates and calibration records.
• Monitor on‑site storage, segregation, and protection of materials.
• Check asphalt mix temperature, gradation, and binder content during paving operations.
• Ensure compliance with ITPs, MS, and PQP, raise NCRs and follow corrective actions.
• Maintain lot‑wise acceptance records and material traceability.
• Coordinate test schedules and results with third‑party labs and QA/QC teams.

Required profile

• Solid knowledge of ASTM, BS and EN testing methods.
• Hands‑on experience with laboratory and field equipment used for material acceptance.
• Strong documentation and reporting skills.
• Understanding of asphalt plant quality control and concrete batching processes.
• Attention to detail and a compliance‑focused mindset.
