Morgue Officer

About the role

The Morgue Officer is responsible for the safe receipt, handling, and release of deceased bodies within a hospital setting. This role ensures compliance with Ministry of Health (MOH) regulations and supports families during a sensitive time.

Key responsibilities

• Receive deceased bodies from all hospital units and release them to relatives as required.
• Accompany each body from the originating unit to the morgue, ensuring proper documentation.
• Follow MOH regulations for the receipt, handling, and delivery of dead bodies.
• Inspect morgue facilities for maintenance issues and report them to the Duty Manager’s Office.
• Complete required documentation for amputated parts, arrange storage, and follow up on burial if relatives have not collected the parts within one week.
• Maintain all morgue files and related paperwork in an organized manner.
• Prepare weekly reports for MOH liaison regarding bodies retained for more than two weeks or for legal/criminal reasons.
• Collaborate with medical records to archive morgue documents properly.

Required profile

• Familiarity with MOH regulations governing mortuary practices.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
• Excellent organizational skills for handling documentation and reporting.
• Ability to work sensitively with bereaved families.
