About the role
The Port Captain oversees vessel operations in Saudi Arabia, ensuring that budgets, crew welfare, and safety standards are consistently met. This role acts as the primary liaison between ship masters, crew, and shore‑based departments to maintain smooth and compliant maritime activities.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor vessel budgets for food provisions, housekeeping, and inventory, ensuring economical use of resources.
- Liaise with captains, crew, and office staff to promote safety, well‑being, and clear communication.
- Conduct technical interviews of deck officer candidates and select suitable crew for assigned vessels.
- Brief masters, officers, and crew on roles, responsibilities, and company expectations before deployment.
- Coordinate travel, crew changes, and personnel issues with the Personnel Department.
- Track crew overlap days, manage requisitions, and review deck and catering inventories.
- Work with Purchasing to guarantee timely delivery of supplies and monitor purchase requisitions.
- Identify potential operational disruptions and alert the team leader.
- Ensure sufficient spare parts are carried and monitor bridge team performance through regular appraisals.
- Highlight high‑potential or under‑performing crew to the Fleet Superintendent for corrective action.
- Conduct monthly on‑board inspections of hull, cargo spaces, deck machinery, and safety equipment.
- Coordinate special offshore requirements with Operations and Vessel Master, covering certification and safety gear.
- Prepare vessel repair specifications in collaboration with engineering staff.
- Ensure compliance with IMCA guidelines and best industry practices for DP operations and equipment readiness.
Required profile
- Extensive experience in maritime operations and crew management.
- Strong communication skills to maintain effective liaison between ship and shore.
- Proven ability to conduct technical interviews and assess crew competence.
- Detail‑oriented approach to budgeting, inventory control, and regulatory compliance.
- Capability to perform regular inspections and enforce safety standards.
