Research Equipment Planning Specialist

About the role

The Research Equipment Planning Specialist supports KAUST’s laboratory ecosystem by analysing equipment requests, managing the full lifecycle of research assets, and providing technical reports that guide procurement and utilisation decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse SAP records of research assets and produce lifecycle reports for critical equipment.
• Coordinate with the research asset support team to track, locate, and dispose of laboratory equipment.
• Evaluate equipment condition, age and technology status to recommend reuse or replacement.
• Facilitate equipment transfers between labs and other facilities.
• Liaise with finance on equipment valuation and depreciation.
• Review technical specifications of new proposals and compare them with existing assets.
• Record utilisation rates and support standardisation efforts with the LEM and Procurement teams.
• Prevent duplicate purchases by providing faculty with specifications of similar existing equipment.
• Assist principal investigators from proposal development through commissioning.
• Maintain a central database of commonly used research equipment and oversee the surplus program.

Required profile

• Strong analytical ability and experience preparing technical reports.
• Excellent written communication for documentation and stakeholder updates.
• Familiarity with academic and industrial research environments.
• Self‑directed, able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Detail‑oriented with the capacity to prioritise multiple tasks.
