Rust Developer - Remote

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Rust Backend Developer to join our customer’s remote engineering team. In this contract role you will design, build and continuously improve high‑performance REST and GraphQL APIs while collaborating with AI researchers testing next‑generation developer tools.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and optimise RESTful and GraphQL endpoints for scalable backend services.
• Implement robust data validation, error handling and security best practices.
• Plan and execute database migrations, performance tuning and schema changes.
• Test AI‑powered models in the Cursor environment, report incidents, bugs and provide feedback.
• Participate in intensive 4‑day testing bursts to evaluate AI impact on coding workflows.
• Engage with the research team via Slack, share findings and propose improvements.
• Complete post‑burst surveys delivering insights on model performance and developer experience.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience, primarily using Rust.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear incident and bug reporting.
• Proven ability to thrive in fast‑paced, confidential, collaborative remote environments.
• Enthusiasm for AI advancements in software development.
