Senior Internal Auditor – Engineering

About the role

The Senior Internal Auditor – Engineering will independently assess and improve internal controls, risk management, and governance across engineering activities, projects and operations. This role ensures compliance with policies, industry standards and regulatory requirements while driving continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, lead and execute internal audits of engineering operations, capital projects and technical processes.
• Assess the effectiveness of internal controls and governance frameworks within engineering functions.
• Identify and analyse key engineering risks such as cost, quality, safety and timelines, and recommend mitigation strategies.
• Develop risk‑based audit programmes aligned with organisational priorities.
• Review capital projects, procurement activities and contractor performance throughout the project lifecycle.
• Analyse budget utilisation, cost management practices and project financial controls.
• Prepare clear audit reports with findings, root causes and actionable recommendations.
• Present audit outcomes to senior management and follow up on corrective actions.
• Support external audits and regulatory inspections as required.

Required profile

• 7–10 years of experience in internal audit, engineering audit or a related field.
• Strong understanding of engineering processes, project lifecycle and risk management.
• Knowledge of internal audit standards (IIA) and control frameworks (COSO).
• Ability to analyse complex technical and financial data.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Accounting or Finance.
• Preferred certifications: CIA, SOCPA/CPA/ACCA, PMP.
