Software Engineer - PlanetScale Postgres

About the role

We are seeking a Software Engineer specialized in PlanetScale Postgres to join a partner company’s core database platform team in Saudi Arabia. You will work on a next‑generation managed Postgres service that powers mission‑critical applications at global scale, focusing on reliability, performance, and automation.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build the control plane for provisioning, scaling, and maintaining Postgres clusters with minimal downtime.
• Develop high‑availability, disaster‑recovery, and data‑protection mechanisms for production databases.
• Optimize Postgres performance for large‑scale, high‑throughput workloads.
• Create automation, tooling, and workflows for backups, restores, migrations, and failover handling.
• Contribute to the design and operation of distributed, fault‑tolerant systems.
• Participate in on‑call rotations and respond to production incidents.
• Collaborate with customers and internal teams to translate workload patterns into platform improvements.
• Improve observability, reliability engineering, and operational excellence.

Required profile

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building production‑grade distributed systems.
• Strong proficiency in Go and experience with Python, Ruby, Rust, or Zig.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems principles (fault tolerance, consistency, scalability).
• Hands‑on experience with Kubernetes and containerized infrastructure.
• Proven experience with large‑scale Postgres deployments or similar databases.
• Excellent problem‑solving and independent work capabilities.
• Clear communication skills for technical and stakeholder audiences.
