Staff Security Operations Engineer

About the role

Canonical is building a new Security Operations (SecOps) team reporting directly to the CISO. As a Staff Security Operations Engineer you will help design, implement and evolve security standards, tools and processes that protect Canonical’s infrastructure, product pipelines and the broader Ubuntu open‑source ecosystem.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and continuously improve Canonical’s SecOps security standards, playbooks and architecture.
• Evaluate, select and deploy new security tools and practices across the organization.
• Detect, contain and guide remediation of security threats and cyber‑attacks.
• Drive threat modelling, threat‑intelligence sharing and open‑source security initiatives.
• Contribute to the security roadmap for Canonical products and the global Ubuntu estate.
• Represent Canonical in industry events, public presentations and sector‑specific governance bodies.

Required profile

• Proven experience defending high‑value assets against advanced persistent threats, preferably with exposure to state‑level actors.
• Strong academic or professional track record in cybersecurity, even if overall experience is limited.
• Ability to work autonomously and collaborate across engineering, product and infrastructure teams.
