System Assurance Engineer – Rail & Transit

About the role

Lead and coordinate System Assurance activities across rail sub‑systems to ensure the integrated railway system is safe, reliable and fit for purpose throughout its lifecycle. The role combines technical authority, project management and strategic guidance for signalling, communications, traction power and rolling stock teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and manage the System Assurance Management Plan (SAMP) in line with CENELEC EN 50126/28/29 standards.
• Lead RAMS analyses (FMEA, FMECA, FTA, RBD, ALARP/SFAIRP) and maintain the project Hazard Log.
• Manage the System Safety Case (SSC) and support Independent Safety Assessment activities.
• Oversee verification and validation, ensuring traceability of system requirements to design deliverables.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, contractors and stakeholders to align system‑level performance.
• Review technical documentation (design specs, ICDs, test procedures) from a system assurance perspective.
• Utilise DOORS for requirements management and maintain assurance registers, action trackers and configuration records.
• Facilitate safety workshops, HAZIDs, HAZOPs and design reviews.

Required profile

• Senior engineering professional with extensive experience in rail or transit system assurance.
• Strong knowledge of CENELEC standards (EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129) and RAMS methodology.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex technical projects.
• Excellent analytical and risk‑assessment skills.
