Technical Support Engineer - BYD

About the role

The Technical Support Engineer is the dealership's highest technical authority for complex diagnostic cases, warranty escalations and OEM technical coordination. The role supports Workshop Supervisors and Technicians in resolving advanced and repeat faults while ensuring diagnostic and repair work meets OEM standards, and acts as the main technical link with the manufacturer. It also helps build workshop capability by coaching technicians and supporting continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead diagnosis and resolution of complex, repeat or high-priority cases escalated from the workshop, applying structured methods and OEM systems, and document detailed case reports
• Act as the primary technical contact with the OEM and manage recalls, special service campaigns and field actions
• Prepare and submit technical reports, product quality reports and warranty escalation cases, and keep up with OEM updates and service bulletins
• Coach technicians and electrical technicians on complex repairs and new technologies, run training sessions and build a knowledge base of common faults
• Ensure work meets OEM standards for warranty claims and audits, analyse comeback rates, FTR and warranty claims, and lead initiatives to reduce repeat repairs

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Automotive, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related field; OEM Master Technician certification or equivalent is highly preferred
• Minimum 7-10 years of progressive experience in a franchised automotive dealership workshop
• Proven track record of complex diagnostics and direct experience with OEM technical teams, warranty departments or technical support
• Strong exposure to EV, hybrid systems, ADAS and modern vehicle electronics is essential

Required skills

• Expert use of OEM diagnostic platforms, scan tools and oscilloscope-based equipment
• Deep understanding of powertrain, chassis, body electronics and high-voltage systems
• Detailed root cause analysis and structured technical reporting
• Working knowledge of DMS platforms, warranty systems, OEM portals and Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
