Next Generation Sequencing Staff Scientist (PacBio/Oxford Nanopore)

About the role

The Bioscience Core Lab (BCL) at KAUST seeks a Staff Scientist to lead the Capillary and third‑generation sequencing team. This senior position oversees daily operations, ensures high‑quality genomic data, and drives the adoption of emerging sequencing technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily laboratory activities and guarantee excellent data quality for genetic research projects.
• Act as Lab Safety Representative, develop and enforce safety plans, and maintain good laboratory practice.
• Collaborate with other team leads and the BCL director to ensure smooth operations and continuous development.
• Conduct lab meetings, assign projects, and provide feedback to team members and senior management.
• Mentor and train junior staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
• Advise users and principal investigators on optimal use of sequencing platforms and resources.
• Lead asset management and contribute to strategic planning for laboratory equipment.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate new assays and technologies as needed.
• Manage processing of specialized molecular biology samples lacking standard protocols.
